Tobacco, Cancer and You

April is known as Cancer Awareness Month. Although cancer touches us all year long, this is a fitting time to share with you some important cancer facts and prevention information so that you and your friends and family can take action to reduce the risk of developing cancer.

Did you know that more than 50 per cent of cancers are preventable? What you eat, whether you smoke, your level of activity, and how you spend time in the sun are all lifestyle choices that can affect your chances of getting cancer — and your chances of preventing it.

Recently we interviewed Dr. David McLean, head of the BC Cancer Agency’s Prevention Programs, to discuss the number one preventable cause of cancer — tobacco.
