British Columbians have the best cancer outcomes and among the highest standards of cancer care in Canada. This speaks to the success of the BC Cancer Agency's population-based approach to cancer control, where every aspect of care brings new knowledge for researchers.

Over the next 10 years, the BC Cancer Agency has the opportunity to significantly improve life for people with cancer and even prevent them getting cancer in the first place. Your donations will have a real impact on this by supporting prevention and early detection of cancer – a vital factor in curing the disease.

Advances in care will range from either curing or controlling many cancers and their symptoms, to providing life extension and offering substantial physical and emotional support to offset the burden of cancer.

From yesterday to today
Seventy years ago most people who had cancer died of it. Now approximately 50 per cent of cancer patients are cured. The underlying philosophy today is that we are not treating the disease; we are treating the person, and with this, turning cancer into a disease that it is possible to live with.

A unique provincial cancer registry
The BC Cancer Agency is renowned for its unique provincial cancer registry that, since 1938 has tracked the treatment of every person in the province who gets cancer, and guides treatment decisions for each patient and helps researchers track the effectiveness of their work as it occurs.
