A message from our President & CEO, and our Board Chair

Thank you for visiting our web site!

The BC Cancer Foundation was founded in 1935 by individuals who wanted to do something about the fact that British Columbia had the worst cancer outcomes in Canada.

And over the next 70 plus years - through the generous support of BC Cancer Foundation donors - British Columbia has improved to having the very best cancer outcomes of any province in Canada.

But so much more needs to be done.

While over 50% of those diagnosed with cancer can now expect to live, cancer remains the leading cause of premature death in this province.

And, while some cancers, such as testicular cancer or childhood leukaemia are over 90% curable, other cancers such as lung and ovarian continue to claim the lives of the majority of those diagnosed.

But there is much hope for the future - hope built through the investment of thousands of generous donors in the unique and world-leading research of the BC Cancer Agency.

We want to take this chance to thank all of those generous donors.

But we also want to encourage that support to continue and grow. This web site has been designed to build the confidence that a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation is the right investment for those that want to make a difference in British Columbia.

Please join with us and help the 20,000 British Columbians who will be newly diagnosed with cancer in 2006 - and the over 120,000 in this province who are living with the disease at this time.

Thank you again for visiting our new web site and for your support.
