Board Chair, John Jennings

Board Chair John Jennings holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from the University of Western Ontario, an MBA from London Business School, and holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst. Jennings is COO for Anthem Properties. His near 30-year career has been spent in the financial services industry in the UK and Canada, with a focus on investment banking. Jennings is committed to giving back to the community and has served on a number of not for profit boards, including St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation (as Chair), World Presidents’ Organization – BC Chapter (as Chair), and Capilano Golf & Country Club.

President & CEO, Douglas Nelson

Doug Nelson was appointed President & CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation in June of 2009. He comes to the position with an outstanding track record of health care philanthropy and reputation for building sustainable revenue generating programs to advance research and clinical care.

Most recently Doug served as Chief Development Officer & Associate Vice President, External Relations at the University of Alberta where he led the successful conclusion of Campaign 2008, the second largest fundraising campaign of its kind in Canadian history. He began his time at the University of Alberta at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry as the Assistant Dean, External Relations. In that role he was integral in securing more than 30 endowed chairs to support basic, clinical and translational research. Through partnerships with the private and not-for-profit sectors, Doug and his team innovated new ways to leverage donor and government funds to advance the research enterprise at the Faculty.

Prior to his time at the U of A, Doug was at the University of British Columbia for nearly eight years, culminating as the Director of Development for the Faculty of Medicine. Despite living outside of B.C., Doug has maintained strong connections to the B.C. health care community and the outstanding work being conducted at the BC Cancer Agency.

Born in Chicago, Doug was raised in Alberta. He has degrees from the University of Calgary and the University of British Columbia.

A frequently invited speaker and commentator on health care philanthropy, Doug is highly motivated to strengthen the Foundation’s support of the BC Cancer Agency as a world leader in cancer research and care.
