Surrey Couple Wins Lifestyles Lottery Early Bird Draw

Nov. 18, 2005, Vancouver, BC - The BC Cancer Foundation announced today the winner of the Early Bird prize in its Lifestyles Lottery is Surrey resident Teresita Gotengco and her husband Tom Jack, whose family has been touched by cancer, and who drive a 1988 vehicle.

"I couldn't believe it … I still can't believe it!" Teresita said when she first received the news. "We have bought BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery tickets every year. "This is the first time we've ever won anything big."

Teresita and Tom's Early Bird prize package includes 15 days and nights in three of Spanish's most romantic and historic cities – Seville, Cordoba and Granada – plus a brand new 2006 Pontiac Solstice roadster-style sports car — the first to arrive in B.C.!  and $20,000 cash.

Coincidentally, Teresita and Tom have not only been thinking about taking a trip to Spain, they've also been talking about the Pontiac Solstice. "We drive a 1988 Nissan truck. Tom has been drooling over the Solstice every time he sees the TV ads," she said.

Asked why she and her husband have been long-time supporters of the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery, Teresita explained her family's connection to cancer. "My sister has had a double mastectomy and is a breast cancer survivor. Our whole family knows we have to watch carefully for cancer among ourselves."

"We are fortunate; we're both working and we have good jobs," she added. "We buy the tickets to give back to our community."

Tickets for the two grand prize showhomes in the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery are only available for one more week, as all ticket sales close at midnight on Thursday November 24.

The $2.3 million grand prize in the British Properties of West Vancouver features a 4,800 square foot, fully-furnished home with stunning city, harbour and ocean views, plus a new 2006 BMW 325i sedan and $25,000 cash.

The grand prize on Vancouver Island is a $1.6 million mansion at Bear Mountain Estates in Victoria plus $10,000 cash.

Proceeds from the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery will be directed exclusively towards cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency.

Tickets are $100 each or three for $250 and can be purchased at the BC Cancer Foundation, the BC Cancer Agency, at all retailers listed in the lottery brochure or by calling 1-866-939-5508. Full lottery information can be found at www.LifestylesLottery.com.

The BC Cancer Foundation is an independent charitable organization that raises funds for research and enhanced care at the BC Cancer Agency.
