Second Weekend to End Breast Cancer Kicks off

MEDIA ADVISORY: B.C.’s largest single fundraising event is back for its second year! The 60-kilometre, two-day walk will raise millions more for breast cancer research.

August 19, 2005, Vancouver, B.C - Participant check-in and safety training kicked off today, at the second annual Weekend to End Breast Cancer event in Vancouver benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. Tomorrow, on Saturday August 20th, the valiant women and men, many who are participating for their second year, will begin their 60-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Vancouver to raise significant funds and awareness for the BC Cancer Foundation.

The Opening Ceremony gets underway at 7am at the Plaza of Nations, where an empowering tribute will take place to honour those who have lost the battle to breast cancer as well as to celebrate survivors.  This will be followed by participants taking their first steps and embarking on a 60km, two-day journey together.

There is a media tent on-site with press/route information available all weekend and a designated area for satellite trucks.  Please come to the VIP/Media Check In table upon arrival.  Participants, event, and beneficiary spokespersons are available for interviews before, during and after the walk.

At The Weekend to End Breast Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation, thousands of women and men, including breast cancer survivors, family members, friends and supporters of the cause, together walk 30 kilometres a day for two days to battle breast cancer one step at a time.  For some participants, The Weekend to End Breast Cancer is a rally for loved ones still fighting the disease, and for many it is a celebration of their lives as breast cancer survivors. Whatever their inspiration, all walkers have the same goal: to help raise millions of dollars to save lives and to help bring an end to breast cancer.
