Winners heard the news as they waited at LAX for a flight to B.C. - but thought it was a practical joke!
Vancouver, BC - Two business partners who live in East Vancouver are taking to the road in a brand new Chevrolet Corvette after their ticket was drawn in the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery early bird draw on Friday, November 5. They also receive $20,000 in cash with the prize package, worth a staggering total of $100,000.
Kevin Liang and Tony Chu, who have been running an internet hosting business together in Richmond since 1998, were on a business trip in California when the draw was made. They found out they'd won the early bird prize at Los Angeles airport shortly before they flew back to Vancouver.
"I called my brother from LAX to arrange a lift home and he told me we'd won the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery prize, but because he's always playing jokes on me I didn't believe him," said Kevin. "Usually after a few minutes, he tells me that he's joking around but this time he didn't - so I began to realize that he was actually telling the truth. Then I had to convince Tony who thought I was playing a joke on him!"
Kevin currently lives with his mother in East Vancouver. Tony lives nearby and is married with two children. They have been strong supporters of the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery for a number of years. Both share the BC Cancer Foundations vision of a world free from cancer and were also personally affected after the death of a friend's mother.
Over 85% of the tickets have already been sold for this year's BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery but there is time to still purchase a ticket. In total, there are 12,800 prizes to be won, including two Grand Prize Showcases – each complete with a brand new car and cash – one at Bear Mountain in Victoria and one in West Vancouver. Also up for grabs are other exciting vehicles and many once-in-a-lifetime worldwide vacations.
Chances of winning a prize are one-in-ten with tickets costing only $100 or three for $250. Tickets can be purchased at all Future Shop, Brick & HSBC locations in B.C. or by calling the toll-free number at 1-877-510-8511. Tickets are on sale until Wednesday, November 17, 2004 with the final draw taking place on Thursday, December 2.
