Lifestyles Lottery Shoal Point Victoria waterfront condo won by Oak Bay resident
November 21, 2003, Victoria, BC - The second prize in this year's BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyle Lottery, a luxury fully furnished waterfront condo at Shoal Point in Victoria, along with a Land Rover Freelander and $10,000 in cash have been won by a couple from Oak Bay.
Elizabeth Moore and her husband Bill, saw their new home for the first time on November 21, when they were awarded it by BC Cancer Foundation representatives.
"The condo is just beautiful! I just can't believe it's ours, " she said, " I kept saying, 'are you sure this is not a joke?' When I got the phone call I was busy at home making the beds and tidying up. When I saw this condo my first thought was how much easier it would be to keep tidy!"
"We have been through a difficult year with a few health challenges," Elizabeth recounts, " This could not have come at a better time."
Elizabeth's husband of 46 years, Bill, took the call and wasn't quite sure what it was about so passed it on. "I just watched the look of disbelief on her face," he says, "She kept saying, "Oh my, are you sure?"
Bill, an avid golfer eyed the putting green under construction with great interest, and as a keen swimmer, was excited to find out there was a beautiful lap pool in the complex.
Elizabeth purchased three tickets in the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery this year. It was the third ticket that was the winner. "I bought one the first year, two the second and now I guess its three times lucky," she laughs.
Elizabeth has many family members who have been affected by cancer, including her sister who had breast cancer and her grandfather who died of bowel cancer. Elizabeth herself had skin cancer. "That is why I keep buying the tickets," she says. "It is so important to support cancer research. One of my daughters is a cancer researcher in Vancouver, and that is another reason we support the BC Cancer Foundation."
Their 11-year-old granddaughter is the most excited, "She keeps telling us to keep the Land Rover! She would like me to pick her up from school in it, rather than in my 1986 Toyota," Elizabeth recounts.
One thing Elizabeth and Bill are agreed on, "You can bet we will be buying tickets again next year!"
The BC Cancer Foundation is an independent organization that supports research and care through the BC Cancer Agency. On Vancouver Island the Foundation supports the work of the BC Cancer Agency's Trev & Joyce Deeley Research Centre. This is the third year for the BC Cancer Foundation Lifestyles Lottery and to date $8 million has been raised to support cancer research here in British Columbia at the BC Cancer Agency.
