About the BC Cancer Foundation Vancouver Island

Our centre is one of ‘discovery research’: locating research labs in the same building where patients receive treatment gives medical staff and laboratory researcher an unparalleled ability to work together as team, and to develop new and better medical practices.

This is the only BC Cancer Agency centre where both a patient treatment clinic and a cancer research centre are housed together under one roof.

The BC Cancer Agency’s Trev & Joyce Deeley Research Centre on Vancouver Island specializes in immune-based cancer research.

Researchers are looking at ways to harness the power of the immune system to find new and more effective ways to detect, treat and cure cancers.

We all are familiar with the body’s immune system, which fights off infections and viruses.  There is an immune response to cancerous cells, but clearly the immune system fails when cancerous cells grow and form tumours.
