Dr. Peter Watson
Dr. Peter Watson is Professor of Pathology at the University of British Columbia, and holds positions as Chief Physician, Staff Pathologist and Senior Research Scientist at the BC Cancer Agency's Vancouver Island Centre in Victoria.
He trained in medicine at the University of Cambridge, UK and St Thomas’s Hospital, London, UK. He then moved to the University of Manitoba, Canada where he developed a career as a clinician, scientist and biobanker before joining the BC Cancer Agency’s Trev & Joyce Deeley Research Centre in Victoria in 2005.
He combines a clinical practice as a breast pathologist with a research program focused on the molecular pathology of breast and ovarian cancer. He also leads agency, provincial and national biobanking initiatives that support translational cancer research. To this end he currently directs the BC Cancer Agency’s Tumor Tissue Repository Program and the Manitoba Breast Tumor Bank, and is co-leader of both the BC BioLibrary initiative and the Canadian Tumor Tissue Repository Network. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biochemistry/Microbiology at the University of Victoria.
His major goal is to foster research as an integral component of patient care within the BC Cancer Agency's Vancouver Island Centre in Victoria.
