A Donor’s Personal Story

Almost a decade ago, following an annual medical exam, David Smith was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Thanks to the cutting-edge treatment he received at the BC Cancer Agency in Victoria, David is now an active volunteer and advocate for BC Cancer Foundation. David and his wife Lorraine, a recent breast cancer survivor, also play a round of golf every now and then in their spare time.

Motivated in a positive way by their experiences with cancer, David and Lorraine established a fund at the BC Cancer Foundation for prostate cancer research. By setting up the David & Lorraine Smith Prostate Cancer Research Fund, they were able to make a significant impact in the battle against prostate cancer.

David and Lorraine want others on Vancouver Island to know about the existence of the fund and they encourage others to contribute. David says that he is “encouraged by the innovative research taking place right here on Vancouver Island” Lorraine says that it is, “important that the dollars are staying on Vancouver Island to work towards a cure.”
