Runners and walkers "exposed" in the return of BC Cancer Foundation's Underwear Affair
Feb. 12, 2007, Vancouver, B.C - The BC Cancer Foundation launched its second annual Underwear Affair today to raise funds and awareness for cancers below the waist. The Underwear Affair offers both a racy 10K run and a 5K walk through the streets of Vancouver with participants wearing only their underwear and smiles.
BC Cancer Foundation’s Underwear Affair is the hottest race to hit Vancouver. Dedicated to uncovering cures for “taboo” cancers such as prostate, testicular, and ovarian cancer, this event is fun for a good cause. The run/walk encourages and awards prizes for most outrageous costumes and the fun doesn’t end at the finish line. Participants and guests are invited to the EXPOsed afterparty which will feature live music and entertainment to party well past their bedtimes.
Nick Locke, Senior VP of Development at BC Cancer Foundation says “These gynecological and urological types of cancers below the waist don’t get the level of awareness or research funding they really deserve. They’re cancers whose locations make them embarrassing topics and people will avoid screening because of this.
“We’re out to lift the taboo connected with cancers below the waist. Shedding light on these cancers means more awareness and more research funding, leading to better prevention, earlier diagnosis and improved treatments at the BC Cancer Agency right here in B.C.,” continues Locke.

About “Underwear” Cancers
“Underwear” cancers account for 38 per cent of all newly diagnosed cancers in B.C. These cancers occur below the waist and include prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, uterine cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and testicular cancer among others.
