Vancouver Canucks star Trevor Linden to ride in BC Cancer Foundation’s Westside Cycling Classic fundraiser
Cyclists of all ages invited to register now for chance to join hockey fan favourite on June 1st
April 11, 2008, Vancouver - Trevor Linden announced today he will ride with Olympic cycling medalist, former Belgium national cycling champion and Tour de France veteran Axel Merckx in the BC Cancer Foundation’s new community fundraising event on June 1st - The Westside Cycling Classic, presented by the Airey Group - to support cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency.
“I'm really looking forward to riding in the BC Cancer Foundation's Westside Cycling Classic with my friend Axel, and I invite all my fans to register in advance and join us on Sunday, June 1st to be part of a great cause – supporting cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency," Linden said.
The BC Cancer Foundation’s Westside Cycling Classic, presented by the Airey Group, is a scenic 40-km community ride through the UBC endowment lands on Vancouver’s Westside and is open to all recreational cyclists aged four and up.
MLA Sindi Hawkins, who along with Premier Gordon Campbell is an honorary chair of the event, said, "I am a huge fan and thrilled that Trevor Linden is a part of the BC Cancer Foundation's Westside Cycling Classic. He has always given back to his community and I urge all hockey and sports fans to join Trevor in supporting leading cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency."
Event registrations are expected to fill up quickly with the news of Linden’s participation, so cyclists are advised to register and get fundraising tips at: www.cycleforcancer.com or by phoning 604-696-BIKE (2453) as soon as possible. The top adult fundraiser in the community ride will win a deluxe trip for two to the 2008 Tour de France.
The Westside Cycling Classic includes the BC Road Race Championships in the morning and the Community Ride in the afternoon, followed by an outdoor family festival.
Established in 1935, the BC Cancer Foundation raises funds to support research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, throughout B.C.
