Premier encourages support for Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting BC Cancer Foundation
Victoria, B.C. - November 26, 2008 - Premier Gordon Campbell, MLA Sindi Hawkins and other members of the BC Legislature congregated on the steps of the Victoria Parliament Buildings today to announce their support for The Ride to Conquer Cancer® benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. The Premier encouraged MLAs and other organization to get involved in the inaugural event by signing up and organizing teams to ride over 200 km next June 20-21, 2009.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation will raise money for research and enhancements to patient care at the BC Cancer Agency. Riders will begin a two-day journey from Vancouver, BC to Seattle, Washington on the morning of Saturday, June 20, 2009 with a moving opening ceremony in Vancouver, before embarking on the first leg of the journey. After camping overnight, the ride will end on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.
“Almost everyone has been touched in some way by cancer either directly or indirectly,” said Premier Campbell, Honorary Chair of the event. “This ride is a great way to raise awareness and support for those impacted by cancer and I encourage people to get involved and participate in this unique event.”

The BC Cancer Foundation, established in 1935, raises funds to support research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority which provides a province-wide, population-based cancer control program for everyone in BC and Yukon.
