Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) is established by BC Cancer Foundation with the purpose of taking a leadership role in engaging youth in raising funds to support cancer research and care initiatives by the BC Cancer Agency's Vancouver Island Centre.
YIP's mandate includes:
- Educating youth about philanthropy and the importance of giving their time and energy for the common good;
- Developing philanthropic behaviour, experience and skills;
- Empowering youth to take voluntary action for the common good in their schools, lives and communities.
The YIP program is run by the YIP Leadership Committee made up of youth from local secondary schools and universities with the leadership and support of the BC Cancer Foundation staff on Vancouver Island.
Roles of the YIP Leadership Committee members
YIP Leadership Committee is designed to capture the enthusiasm and energy of youth to help in the fight against cancer. Roles and responsibilities of the YIP Leadership Committee include (but are not limited to):
- To act as representatives of BC Cancer Foundation and be the voice of youth in fundraising initiatives
- To identify and initiate fundraising activities and actively fundraise in schools and the community
- To actively engage youth groups/individuals in the community to support YIP
- To develop and help implement a plan to raise community awareness and a positive external profile of the YIP initiative highlighting success stories
- To recognize and thank YIP supporters
- To attend monthly YIP Leadership Committee meetings and actively participate by contributing time and experience

How to get involved
We are always looking for new members! Click on the Application Form button to the right to fill out an online application form or download one here, fill it out and email it to BC Cancer Foundation to get started.
Each application will be reviewed by the BC Cancer Foundation staff and you will be notified within two weeks after the receipt of your application.
